The ‘EKKA’ is described as country meets city and brings together the best of the Queensland community in a ten-day extravaganza. This creates a sense of unity and builds support for those parts of the community that are at times isolated. The economic benefits of such a large-scale event are widespread and cover the tourism industry, local business and the entertainment industry. It also creates media and publicity opportunities both indirect and direct for stakeholders and participants. The Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland (RNA) is an active industry associate for the EKKA.
The best mornings were during the summer season when the town would be greeted by the dazzling rays of the sun, seemingly rising from the top of the snowcapped Mt. When I think of my hometown, all that comes to mind is a wide variety of the things to do and to see. Anyone that goes for a ride through the county will enjoy everything that Calhoun has to offer. I could ramble on for hours about everything that makes Calhoun County spectacular. Instead, below are just a few different things that make the county what it is.
The idea of Live Aid came as a follow on from the single ‘Do they know it’s Christmas’ from the previous winter, which was also another project by Geldof and Ure. Many memorable performances occurred throughout the event, which is why it’s so greatly remembered, as well as the fact that it was one of the most ambitious international satellite projects ever attempted on such as large scale. Funds were raised ($100 million) and sent to Ethiopia, although there were claims that a portion of the money had gone towards other things that weren’t related to Ethiopia. LIVE 8: Live 8 was a sort of comeback in 2005, in an attempt to remind people of the great achievements of 1985 with Live Aid.
