Priscilla Figueroa Professor James O’Neil ENC 1101 September 15, 2011 Our Kayak Trip On a warm Sunday morning, my family and I woke up earlier then usual to make it to our 9am kayak reservation at Weedon Park. I planned a kayak family trip for about a month, so we were ready for our trip. We arrived at our location on time and we pick out our three-person kayak. After the kayak instructor handed out the maps and directed us where to go, we pick up our kayak and placed it in the water. Now, my family and I were on our own kayaking in Papy’s Bayou. I was told kayaking is a fun water sport, so why not try it out! First, we started to paddle toward the first marker. The markers indicate where to go in the kayak trail. My daughter and I put our hands in the water to feel the temperature of the water. To no surprise, the water was warm from the early sun. We both felt something soft and jelly type things in the water. I look closely and it was tiny little jellyfish. Many jellyfish, then I thought to myself “I’m not jumping in the water”! Then we got closer to some mangroves and the whole scenery looked so beautiful. We asked our daughter to jump off kayak and into the water, so I could take a photo of her. The tide was low and the coast was clear, so I thought. She was standing posing for me to take the picture and I yelled, “Don’t move and stay where you are”! I saw stingrays everywhere camouflaged with the sand. We get the kayak closer to her and she gets in the kayak. What a close call, she didn’t get stung! As we continued kayaking, we spotted the first marker. We paddle through an open mangrove trail; we see tiny fishes and sea grass in the water. By this time we paddled through a couple of markers, we decide to take a break to apply sunscreen and bug spray. I had to choose which to apply to my natural sensitive
