Islam and Judaism Islam is the in Allah as God, the creator of all and the one that has no equal. In Arabic, Islam means “submission” and “peace”. They believe in complete submission of your will to Allah for peace and blessings. Muslim is the name of the followers of Islam. Islam was founded in Mecca, Saudi Arabia by the Prophet Adam.
The Dome of the Rock was built from 685-691 AD by Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, who was a caliph. He built it in Jerusalem. It is a shrine for Muslims, and he wanted it to be a symbol for Jews and Christians to accept Islam. For the Jews, it was from its location, and for the Christians, it was the interior design. It is one of the oldest Islamic monument that has survived throughout many time periods.

Hajj takes place at a specific time of the Muslim lunar calendar. At this time of the year, millions of Muslims from the four corners of the world come together on the pilgrimage to Mecca, the birthplace of Islam. Pilgrims are supposed to fulfill certain requirements before they can set out on Hajj. Each of the six days holds different rituals that have to be performed by the pilgrim in accordance to the prophet’s doings. Hajj is very significant and plays a very important role in a Muslims life.

He reaches for his mat and places it on the ground facing in the direction of Mecca, a town that holds the stone house called Ka’ba. The man keeps his eyes focused on the ground in front of him, so that he is not directing his worship to any object or person, only to Allah. The worship and ritual mentioned above are just two of the many that happen within Hinduism and Islam. I performed it four years ago, and it was one of the unique and emotional experiences in my life. In fact, the rituals of Hajj are based on Prophet Muhammad’s acts during his last visit to Mecca. There is a certain sequence of rituals of the pilgrimage; even though these rituals look very symbolic, they all have a special and deeper meaning. The pilgrims begin arriving by air, sea, and land to Mecca several weeks before the Hajj period. The pilgrimage is performed once a year from the ninth to the thirteenth of Dhu Al-Hijjah, the twelfth month of the Muslim lunar calendar.
