Name: Khalat Khan Through a thorough investigation of different cultures, political systems, and governments, I have realized that a democracy is the most practical form of governance of a successful society. The fundamental humanitarian and political ideals that are the basis of a democracy allow individuals to reach their fullest individual potential, while maintaining a sense of community and responsibility to the state. I believe that every society needs a stable government to protect the rights and freedom of its citizens. Contracts are inherently the basis of every democratic society. I believe it is vital for the government to provide for the people. I also believe in a contractual system in which the people give something in return to the safety guaranteed upon them. I think that jury duty is a very important duty for a citizen because it makes the individual feel that he or she has a responsibility and can benefit the community. I believe that while paying taxes may seem burdensome, it is actually beneficial in the long run. Taxes provide citizens with services that they are unable to obtain on their own. When we pay monthly taxes, the government provides security and protection for our futures. For example, the United States’ system of social security and other social welfare programs offers citizens a sense of security and government assistance in the event of old age, retirement, unemployment, and in extreme cases of poverty. Without taxes, individual citizens are required to provide for themselves in a time of unforeseeable hardship. The payment of taxes also offer Medicare benefits for senior citizens who don’t have the ability to take care of themselves, by providing nursing homes, and facilities for disabled citizens.
