David Zinczenco, the editor-in-chief of Men’s Health Magazine wrote, “Don’t Blame the Eater.” In his reading he cites the irresponsible actions of fast food establishments, such as marketing to young kids, not providing nutritional facts completely, being responsible for obesity and poor health issues in many Americans today. This poses the question. Can they be held accountable? In all reality, maybe it is the lack of concern and the love of financial gain that these establishments thrive off of.

My outlook on this topic varied significantly from that of Zinczenko’s. I feel that it is not the fault of the fast food company. Neither would I put blame on the younger children who eat fast food. I would put most of the culpability on the parents who do not teach their kids how to maintain a healthy lifestyle and buy their children unhealthy food. I disagree completely that we as Americans suffer from lack of information about nutrition in fast food.
This point that he made is astonishing and very concerning. A lot of this is blamed on the fast food industry. People believe that all of this is due to eating fast food. This is in fact true. People would rather not waste the time in cooking a home cooked meal.

Eating disorders are triggered by emotions just like eating signals are. “Current studies evaluated the mediating roles of appetite awareness and emotional awareness in a brief eating disorders prevention programs designed to help participants identify and respond to internal appetite signals.” (Brown, 2010) There are some people who may use food as a form a comfort and they just eat large amounts of food because they are upset. People who are overweight tend to have emotional triggers when someone makes comments about their weight. There are also those who will binge eat or eat a large meal and then induce vomiting in order to get rid of the large amount of calories their just took in. Many clients could start to feel down on themselves and use that food for comfort; however, there are those who have the reverse effect and when they are depressed they choose not to eat food at all.
