He insists they would not eat as much if they knew that it was bad for them or if the industry put nutrition labels on their food. My outlook on this topic varied significantly from that of Zinczenko’s. I feel that it is not the fault of the fast food company. Neither would I put blame on the younger children who eat fast food. I would put most of the culpability on the parents who do not teach their kids how to maintain a healthy lifestyle and buy their children unhealthy food. I disagree completely that we as Americans suffer from lack of information about nutrition in fast food.
Consuming fast food is not good for anyone involved. It causes extreme health concerns including a higher risk in disease and acquiring diabetes due to poor nutrition and sanitation in the products. Fast food is also responsible for a decline in the United States’ reputation and even harms the budgets for child public education. It is nearly impossible to defend the fast food industries and all of the horrible consequences involved with consuming fast food after reading the argument Schlosser presented in Fast Food Nation. Fast food consumption is continuing to completely destroy the nation’s economy and spread disease-causing bacteria all over the world.
As many people would recognize, there is a rising obesity problem in America and there are many influences that could contribute to this. Fast food is not the healthiest choice but, they should not be to blame for making children obese. In David Zinczenko’s “Don’t Blame the Eater” he talks about how the obese population is blaming fast food companies for their health situations. He begins his argument with what he observes as a ridiculous headline, which is that kids are suing McDonalds for being fat. David starts by teasing these overweight individuals that are bring a lawsuit against McDonalds, but then later admits that he used to be overweight as a child and was able to change his life around.
Material depravation is the lack of money and resources in the home. Sociologists who are ‘material depravation sociologists’ believe that the main cause of underachievement is lack of money and resources due to poverty. Overcrowding can lead to children not being able to study/ do homework, there may also be disturbed sleep, also, in a crowded household, children have a higher risk of accident. Families living in temporary housing will also be worse off as it means the child may have disrupted education. Howard (2001) noted that young people from poorer homes have lower intakes of energy, vitamins, and minerals.
Obesity and School Lunches A debate has sprung up recently that stirs up strong feelings from the past, and challenges parenting methods of many Americans. The general health of the public has declined over the past decades, as the food we consume becomes more and more processed and our health declines, the youth and generations to follow suffer dearly. As a younger child, I hated seeing vegetables in the school lunches, now I go out of my way to find healthier choices. The epidemic of lack of healthy choices for lunch in our schools is becoming an atrocious situation, begging the question, should the government institute a plan for calories and monitor the health of food served in our cafeterias, regardless of financial situation. Food
The more a certain food is processed, the more mal nourished it becomes and, in turn, the more unhealthy it is. The problem with the American population is our eating habits have become accustom to these fatty, salty, and sugary items and it is why we crave and enjoy them. From the farm to the grocery store, the processing of food diminishes its nutritional value to nothing, sabotaging the American diet so far in diet related disease and obesity, our nation has become a slave to chemically altered foods.
This is causing kids to throw out food, that they are not getting enough of to begin with, but because of the flavor the kids would rather not eat at all then to eat food that is very bland. We need to take action and getting better food regulations for all the children before it gets any worse. The first step would be to contacts our senator in D.C. and write to many others. Eventually the news will get back to Obama and others who will create a balanced meal for all children to
Food is very addictive just as cigarettes, alcohol and marijuana. We live in an environment of toxic food. Our schools vending machines are overflowing with cookies, candies, cakes and sodas. Our favorite restaurants do not provide us with a clear and concise label on what we are eating. Obviously our kids are becoming overweight with all of the unhealthy choices they have to choose from.
We should all be “Hungry for Change.” American society today is generally disgustingly unhealthy. The movie Hungry for Change displays the causes of America’s unhealthy population and why so many people are sick and dying due to their invalid diets. The movie acknowledges the reasons for this appalling occurrence and how we can alter our diets to become closer to what our bodies are designed to consume. The movie is inspiring and extremely informative, it reveals the dangers we face because of the foods we eat and how we put our lives at risk by what we eat alone. The diets of today’s Americans exceed the amount of calories humans should consume, yet greatly lack in nutrition.
In the article "Should Candy and Soda be Banned from Schools" by Tom Vilsack U.S Secretary of Agriculture, it is expressing the effect the eating habit's in which are being promoted throughout schools and how children are affected by them. There are two major aspects stated in this article. The first aspect is the steps that will try to be made in removing all unhealthy drinks and snacks from school vending machines. The second is the effects this has on children which in this particular case is Obesity. Both very valid arguments and we will begin to see why during this passage.
