I think that the media should stop worrying about aspects like religion and ethnicity when they say how great an athlete is, and just focus on the athletes skills in that sport. There are probably not many players in the NBA who have the intelligence of a Jeremy Linn, combined with his skill set and work ethic is an unbeatable combination. Coach Carter Introduction The movie “Coach Carter” is all about morals. It is loaded with real life examples of choosing right over wrong and living a good life, the way God wants us to. The movie is about an inner-city high school basketball team made up with a bunch of tough guys and trouble makers and the only thing they live for is playing basketball. When Coach Carter accepts the coaching job at the high school, he makes all the players sign an agreement that they will maintain good grades and study habits during the season. Obviously Coach Carter cared enough about his players to realize that academics are more important than playing a sport.

Jackson) and high school basketball team the Richmond Oilers, Coach Carter helps out a discouraged coach as he takes on the job as the new head coach; However, he slowly begins to apply his hard and rigorous workout routine to show the young athletes how to stretch not only the body but the mind as well. When the team and the parents cause animosity about how grades aren’t more important than basketball, Carter locks down the gym and ultimately canceling practice and games in an attempt to make the Oilers winners on and off the court and strive for a future. In the film Coach Carter, Carter although insensitive to the n-word, strives to teach young minority student athletes to respect each other, gain an education and lose their stereotypical thug personas. In the film Coach Carter the n-word is used very loosely and asserted throughout the movie by the diverse group of athletes to identify each other as brothers are friends, not knowing they are being bias, not only to themselves but to others around them as well. Timo Cruz one of the primary actors in this film has shown himself to be a lost street thug who has no aspirations in life but to play basketball and sell drugs.

Becoming a Professional Basketball Player As a child, I loved to imitate NBA greats like Julius Erving, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and David Thompson. Growing up in town that was rich with basketball tradition, I knew that I wanted to make it to the NBA and become a star. Not knowing if I had what it takes to make it to that level, I began my quest at an early age. Coach Carter taught the New Richmond Oilers and the viewer’s three main lessons, you can do whatever you set your mind to, school is more important than sports, and life is too short to do something that will bring you down. Success is huge in life. This film is about a man that got a job at Richmond High School as the new basketball coach.
