Would you live in a California Redwood for 738 days to advocate for a tree's life? How far would you go to make your opinion known? In 1997, Julia did just that. Julia Butterfly Hill is an American activist and environmentalist. She is best known for living in a 180 foot tall tree named Luna. Luna is a fifteen-hundred year old California Redwood. She lived in the tree to prevent loggers of the Pacific Lumber Company from cutting it down. Julia Lorraine Hill was born on February 18, 1974 in Mount Vernon, Missouri. Prior to her tenth birthday, she lived with her father, mother, and younger brothers in a 32 foot camper. The family traveled from town to town while her father preached.
