When the world was at war in 1943, Eleanor didn’t hesitate to travel to the South Pacific to boost the allied soldiers’ morale. Tow years later she urged the Army Nurse Corp. to allow African American women to become members and also joined the NAACP board of directors. She is widely known for hosting press conferences and speaking to reporters about the modern issues and being a skilled lecturer, she would charge $ 1,000 per engagement aid. She also spoke on radio shows to raise money for charities. Eleanor had a very pro-active morale and it is no surprise that throughout her husband’s presidency that she often ranked higher in popularity polls then the president.
