Studies of religion Task#2 Judaism When we discuss the ethical teachings of Judaism and how the ethical teachings play the utter most momentousness role in the lives of adherents we first have to look into the core of its ethical teachings. Commandments of the Torah The Torah is the primary document of Judaism, and is the source of all the basic biblical commandments, in an ethical framework. According to Jewish tradition, these books where revealed to Moses by God. The Torah is the holiest of the sacred writings in Judaism. It is a founding document of Judaism and is divided into five books.
The first deacon whom I assumed was the head deacon did the blessings and the other prayed. MY VISIT TO ALL SOULS CATHOLIC CHURCH They both were assisted by kids who sat to the left of the pulpit. These kids were dressed in white robes and a belt made of purple material tied around their waists. Next there was the “Penitential Act.” Which is known as the “Confiteor” confession of sins to almighty God?
Prayer is simply communing with God. Jesus set the perfect example for prayer when he taught his disciples what we call the Lords’ prayer. There are times in our life when we don’t know what to pray for but the word of God said that the Holy Spirit will make intercession for us. The Apostle Paul and Silas prayed and the Holy Spirit caused the ground to shake during their imprisonment. During the book of Acts we see not only the early Church praying but also the disciples.
He explained that to try to follow along with the service, whether it is the singing or prayer as the Shabbat is a holy time of rest to find peace, spiritually. He then grabbed a book, which was a prayer book called a “Siddur”, and handed to me explaining that the songs are sung in Hebrew, but there is an English translation to follow along. Lastly, he gave me the option of wearing a head covering called a kippah, but I chose not to do so. As I walked inside the main room where the service is held, I definitely noticed a bible verse written on
Leadership Evangelistic Evaluation 1. Are you leading with “Confidence in God’s Call”? In interviewing my worship pastor/leader, he notes that the barometer for him, as with many other leaders and as laypersons, is peace in spirit. In his position as worship pastor, music is a required gift. He knows that God’s call for him, before he was even born, was to lead in worship.
The writer explains how he wanted to see, speak, and feel Jesus come to him, but he never got that feeling from Jesus. Judaism is one of the oldest organized religions based on monotheism. The Jews believe in one God and this belief is traditionally practiced by the Jewish Community. Their faith is based upon the stories from the Torah (Old Testament), which is believed to have been revealed to Israel, to use as a doctrine and guide for conducting their lives. The Jewish people believe they have a special covenant with God and they are His chosen people. Devout Jews are taught to obey the laws of God who is loving and caring and grants exceptional favors to them.
As the sermon began, Reverend Leonard began with a couple of verses from the bible Jeremiah 17: 7-8. He related this to the audience because he was telling of one’s faith to the lord and if one was faithful and put their
Also , Hebrew was spoken primarily in the service . One thing I found shocking that I was not previously aware of was that they do not believe Jesus is God. I was quickly corrected when I referred to the prayer service as a “mass”; unlike in Catholicism it is not a mas or a church service, it is a synagogue service. To begin they started with a central prayer known as the Amida , which can also be referred to as the standing prayer or Shmonah
I noticed that the people attending this church are predominantly white middle or upper class families. To start off the religious service the choir began to sing religious songs such as “In Memory of the Crucified”. By starting off the service with songs it allows the bishop and assigned helpers to prepare sacrament as well as give the attendees a chance to quiet down and get ready as well.
