Judaism is a very diverse religion that began around 2000 BCE. Judaism began when God established a covenant with Abraham. Jews celebrate many unique and diverse festivals. The Jewish Scriptures are very different to the Christian Scriptures. There are many different forms of Judaism that have branched off of the original that was formed by Abraham. Most Jews take pride in the background and their religion. This religion has many elements to it. Being a Jew isn’t always just about where one is born or who their ancestors are, rather it is a religion based upon sacred rituals and festivities. These many rituals and festivities are fundamentally important and are part of their everyday life. The Tanakh is the Jewish Scriptures, it is written in poems, songs, stories, historical events and teachings. It is composed of three groups of books, the Torah which is composed of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. The Nevi'im consists of Joshua, Judges, Samuel, Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zachariah, and MalachiIsaiah. The Tanakh also contains the Ketuvim, it is composed of Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Song of Songs, Ecclesiastes, Ruth, Esther, Lamentations, Daniel, Ezra, Nehemiah. Another celebration that is celebrated by Jews is the Rosh Hashanah. The Rosh Hashanah is the anniversary of creation about 5760 years ago. Yom Kippur is celebrated during the fall. Yom Kippur is a day of fasting. Jews also celebrate Sukkoth; it is a time of thanksgiving that takes place over 8 day. Hanukkah is an 8 day feast that represents dedication. It represents the war fought by the Maccabees. Purim recalls the defeat of the plan to murder all of the Persian Jews. Shavout, recalls the revelation of the Torah. The annual festivals are very important to the Jewish people because most of them symbolize their terrible past.
