Journey to Mecca was one of the best films I have ever watched. I really enjoyed how Ibn Battuta’s journey to hajj turned out. When I was watching the film I felt like I was travelling with him. The physical environments in the film looked very real. When Ibn Battuta was traveling from Morocco to the sacred city of Mecca, he sacrificed his life to go perform pilgrimage. He didn’t care what hardships he would face because all he wanted was to perform hajj. His friend advised him not to go because there was a huge possibility that he would die on the way there. But Ibn Battuta was still determined to go and said that if Allah willed for him to die; he would want to die on the way to Mecca. In the film, Ibn Battuta passed by so many different environments. He went through sand dunes and through bad weather. When there was a sand storm, it was really hard for Ibn Battuta to travel. They had to stop and hold on to their camels because without the camel they had no other transportation. Also, when Ibn Battuta didn’t listen to his friend when he advised him to go to Damascus on the great caravan. Ibn Battuta thought that it would be faster to reach Mecca by going through the Red Sea. But unfortunately, when Ibn Battuta got to the Red Sea, the water was at a very high level and was not safe for him to go through it. But his friend that he met along the way ended up following him to the Red Sea and Ibn Battuta had no choice but to follow him to Damascus. When he reached Damascus, he went with the other people who were going to Hajj in the great caravan. There were people from all over the world traveling with him. He traveled through deserts mostly and very hot and scorching weather. Ibn Battuta was shaped by the environment that he had to travel through. He faced so many hardships such as thirst and death. There was hardly any sign of water when he was traveling.
