E “One could see that for all the lupus and the purple eyes, she was uncommonly pretty”(Huxley 16) | I chose this early quote because it describes one of my main characters concerns. This character goes hand by hand with Bernard because it is what drives and motivates him up until a certain point. Also her position in this new world is also ironic since Bernard’s personality changes dramatically due to her. For one he is “love sick” and that is strange in this type of environment. One can say she is the instigator but Bernard as I have said does change dramatically due to her presence and absence. | For a very long period before the time of our Ford, and even for some generations afterwards, erotic play between children had been regard as abnormal (there was a roar of laughter): and not only abnormal, actually immoral (no!) and had therefore been rigorously suppressed (Huxley 32) | I decided to choose this quote for many reasons. First and foremost is because this quote perfectly translates to my main characters ways. This quote her brings forth the conversation of how it used to be. How in the past erotic play used to be frowned upon and how now it is typical and not worth worrying about. And here is where the character steps in. He is in love with the character, Lamina. At first he is shy and does not confront and tells her how he feels about her. Also he does overhear a conversation of how others want her all to themselves. In this instance in the story he is a very pacifist and shy character who seems to have a mentality from the old days before the new world. But this changes later on. Since this will be all he thinks about. And also his view of himself will change and cause him to change drastically. | Poor little kids not allowed to amuse themselves (Huxley 32) | This small quote also caught my attention for many reasons.
