Assignment Instructions: Answer the following questions in paragraph format: What are some advantages/disadvantages of Joint HSS Operations? How do our medical assets support the Force Health Protection (FHP)? Explain in detail. Does anyone here have operational experience with joint HSS? Utilize the internet as a resource to answer these questions. Advantages : An advantage of JHSS Operations is that it streamlines command and control by removing the different channels of communication that Joint Operations traditionally held. Standardized reporting and centralized decision-making enhance and ameliorate healthcare delivery to the battle field. JHSS Operations also offer a better operational logistics from a Class VIII standpoint. When under one hub, issues with Class VIII distribution from previous Joint Operations seem to be a thing of the past. Supplies get to where they are crucially needed. Another key advantage is that the flexibility of medical support is greatly increased allowing for better preparation for stability operations, global war on terror, homeland security, and the overall range of military operations. A disadvantage of JHSS Operations is the loss of individual service identity for the different medical departments. Every entity has doctrine for there their specific medical department and JHSS blurs the lines of demarcation. Army medical assets support Force Health Protection in many ways. In garrison, MTFs take care of all military personnel regardless of branch which has been the norm. However, a further step is taken to ensure that personnel seen are also fit for duty, deployable, shots updated, etc. This makes complete sense especially with the increasing numbers of joint task forces. Consolidating this type of info helps commands have a better snapshot of troops’ health. Another Army asset that is crucial to FHP is medical logistics.
