He is by nature a very kind and regarding man, but for this case, he has to put aside his character, and be as lawyer-like and vicious as possible «His voice had lost all its comfortableness, he was speaking in his arid, detached professional voice». He acts in a really cold way towards Mayella «Let her cry if she wants to, Judge. We've got all the time in the world.» Atticus first asks Mayella some background questions to show the jury what kind of family she comes from. It shows he is a good lawyer and knows how to handle things He is considered by all Maycombians as a good man and excellent lawyer, but Mayella is scared of him «Don't want him doing to me what he did to Papa, tryin' to make him out left-handed», so the judge turns it into a bit of a joke « Big bad Mr Finch ». He gets absolutely passionate when enacting his work as a lawyer : « He emphasised his words by tapping his knuckles on the table » and really invests all his energy in this case.
In this scene, Johnny also puts some money into Terry’s shirt, Johnny does this in such a way which shows that he has power over Terry and that Terry needs to remember that. After Joey’s death, Terry begins to see that what the mob is doing is immoral and wrong. This starts to become apparent after Joey gets pushed off the roof and Terry says to Charlie “I thought they’d just lean on him a little”; Kazan uses this line as a way of showing that Terry is beginning to think that what the mob do is wrong. After Charlie’s death, Terry breaks his ties with the mob. Edie sees this as a sign of freedom for Terry, and decides that she is able to trust him and sticks with Terry through till the end.
When Keller says “what the hell did I work for? That’s only for you Chris, the whole shootin’ match is for you,” this shows the reader very clearly that he feels it his duty to provide for his son. This struggle for wealth and material goods involves Keller committing an awful crime due to his greed,
Characters without power attempt to promote themselves through dramatic and often violent ways. Sasha is central to the theme of power within the story. He is a young and popular leader of a criminal fraternity – making his way through violent and illegal acts; “Sasha was ringleader and mastermind.” Anyone who crosses Sasha will come to regret it as he mercilessly seeks revenge. A road rage incident ends up with Sasha hurling a sour pint of milk through his enemy’s window, whilst his sister’s violent boyfriend ends up literally nailed to the wall. The novel opens with Sasha meeting the main narrator, Louie, and she soon learns the extent of his power; “impressing him was everything.’ Sasha’s power comes from his personal sense of self confidence and strength, as the reader sees him ‘glare like a wolf’ at anyone who might threaten a blind man on the train.

There are a few moments in the film where we see Red’s emotions, but every time we see them they are sincere and keen. The sound in his voice and the commotion written all over his face is so thorough, that it’s hard to believe. But, every inmate in Shawshank relies on Red, because he’s the rock of their society. Andy Dufresne comes to Shawshank as a honest man. He’s punished for a crime that he didn’t commit and he’s just an all around amicable man.
Iago, to everyone else, seems like an honest and good man who will do everything in his power to help those around him succeed, but is really just power-hungry, two-faced and manipulative. He is, however, clever, cunning and philosophical, which can be accepted as positive traits. It is these traits that enable him to gain an insight into human nature, and ultimately exploit it, destroying the lives of those around him. Cassio is a character whom the audience don't know much about, but from the story they can understand that he loves his job as a lieutenant, and cares a lot about his reputation. This becomes clear after he is fired from his position, as he says to Iago; "Reputation, reputation, reputation!
Indeed, Jaggers assures him that Miss Havisham had nothing to do with his great expectations. 2) Herbert meets Magwitch. At the same time, Pip does not want Magwitch's execution on his hands which will surely occur if it is discovered he is back in England.
Boxing was also a way that PK was able to defend himself against later events in the movie. Rules were very strict at the prison and black prisoners were often beat down to the ground for no reason. Piet proves that he is a ‘Global Citizen’ by caring, showing courage and respecting the guards even when he is treated horribly. He is a role model because every time he was beaten down by an officer, he showed his fellow prisoners and PK that determination and
The play begins by showing the readers that Othello is a noble General. He is well respected by his officers with the exception of Iago of course, and he is well respected by politicians. The Duke makes it clear what the town thinks of Othello by saying “Othello, the fortitude of the place is best known to you.” (1. I; iii 576). And later on in the same scene he says to Barbantio, “Your son-in-law is far more fair than black.” Othello is a highly esteemed man who commands the respect of everyone he meets.
