Critical Commentary: John Ryan Tuner Case Conducted by Sgt. Bob Bruce PaleoAnthropology Monday, February 16, 2009 Presentation: John Ryan Turner On Monday, February 16, 2009, Srgt. Bob Bruce presented the Turner Case to our Pale anthropology class. Throughout this critical commentary you will gain knowledge about the things I learned and my view on the devastating case. It was brought to attention on May 26th 1994 when John Ryan Turner died in his home, Miramichi, N.B. at the young age of almost 3 years old. His parents Cpl.Steven Turner and Lorelei Turner were charged with manslaughter. They were a military family stationed at CFB Chatham Testimony at the trial showed that John Ryan was probably held prisoner in his upstairs bedroom, tied up in a leather harness and gagged with socks. His emaciated body weighed only 20lbs at death and was covered in cuts, bruises and sores. He also had broken bones that had healed by themselves without medical attention. July 24th 1995- Steven and Lorelei Turner cried when they were sentenced to 16 years in prison for abusing and starving their son to death. However, in my line of Schooling/Work-Nursing- I just finished working on the Psychiatric Unit in Bathurst and Campbellton and I’ve learned many things about human Psychology. Obviously she wasn’t in the right mind frame at all. After Bob Bruce saying that the parents were released from Jail…I was disturbed and full of anger. Although I am not too familiar with Law, I feel as a resident of this City, I would Never want to see those people around myself or the people I love. As mean as this may sound…I am surprised they are still living today and that no one has killed them
