John Adams Key to Independence of AmericA I was having a hard time trying to decide on who to choose for my History Fair subject. I asked my grandmother if she had any suggestions. She mentioned how she saw an HBO Mini Series Special on John Adams and what a great man he was. We both agreed it would be interesting to learn more about him. He was the first and most outspoken about how the 13 colonies should break away from Britian and go to war against them. Adams was our first Vice President and the Second President of the United States. He also helped contribute to the writing and formation of the Declaration of Independence. I am just beginning to understand, hear and learn politics, diplomacy and voting rights to Americans. It was interesting learning more about the creation of this country and it makes me very proud to be an American. I believe in the future I will always value my right to vote on election day. The most interesting part and things I learned about John Adams was how he believed Independence day should be on July 2nd and that he and Thomas Jefferson died on the same day only hours apart. That day also being the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, July 4th 1826. Some of the most challenging parts of this research was to set aside time each day after homework to work on this project. I went to the local library and conducted my first non-fiction biography search. I also rented a documentary on John Adams that I enjoyed, except it was over five hours long! I also enjoyed getting pictures from several different web sites dedicated to Adams.
