Job Analysis - Paraprofessional The job of a paraprofessional assistant to the special education teacher (PASET) is examined. The PASET is commonly referred to as a paraprofessional or ‘para’, which means “alongside of.” This analysis will provide an exact depiction of all the specifics of a paraprofessional’s job and all the characteristics required to be in this specific field. This particular job was initially brought on because of the teacher shortage during World War II (NCPSE, 2000). Employers within this type of organization have particular methods to hire those with the right blend of KSAOs. The job-oriented job analysis will identify what exactly a paraprofessional does and how this analysis works in the teaching/school organization. Analysis The job-oriented job analysis offers information about the type of duties completed on-the-job (Spector, 2008). The job components inventory (JCI) can be used when assessing whether or not a person is suitable for this particular job within the organization. The five mechanisms of job features are represented in the JCI, which are the use of tools and equipment, perceptual and physical obligations, mathematics, communication, and decision-making and responsibility (Spector, 2008). A paraprofessional must be efficient at knowing an extensive range of job requirements. The primary duty of the paraprofessional is to support the special education teacher’s efforts to support the children's development, learning, and well-being. Each student within the special education has an individualized education program (IEP), which all staff must abide by (Appl, 2006). Parents, special education teachers, other school staff (counselors and paraprofessionals), and frequently the student must converge to examine the student's unique requirements to produce an efficient IEP (U.S. Department of Education, 2000).
