The reason I chose this item is because in the book, the main character Pattyn Von Stratten used a journal write down all her troubles because her librarian Ms. Rose told her it would be good for her. The second item I chose was a diaper. I chose this item because all through the main characters life, she had to take care of herself and her six other younger sisters. Her mom and dad always made her change their diapers, feed them, and bathe them. The third item I chose was a ring.
This was the final ingredient in making Marjane the headstrong person that she appeared to be in the book. This is mostly seen early on with the readings that they encourage Marjane to read. Marjane’s novel tends to lean towards the more rebellious audience. Evidence of this can be seen throughout all of Marjane’s different phase from her childhood, to her adolescence, to her adulthood. In the beginning Marjane seems to just follow the beliefs of her parents while being more aware of her surroundings than the average child her age.
She seemed illiterate. However, later she realizes her ignorance was really a gift: she finds if she had read the books at an earlier age, she couldn’t have understood 90 percent of their content, and to reread them later would be unlikely. Fortunately, she realizes she can now read, and understand more. In this essay, Schine wants to show us that reading is life-long process. Her life experience is a good example that it is never too late to start reading.
James Harper English 2100 Writing and Editing “Why I Write” In Joan Didion's"Why I Write", the author uses concrete examples and tells a story through first person narration to do exactly what she has set out to do: explain to the reader exactly why she writes. She explains early on in her essay that she is not a "thinker". She would try to analyze situations while in college but would find her mind reflecting back to tangible ideas and the images that surrounded her. Didion explains that by the time she graduated from Berkely, she knew that she was not a thinker, but an instead a writer. This did not mean that she could not explore abstract ideas, but instead that she must write down the thoughts and images she had
Holding it is, like, ‘what?’ ” Frances credits her teacher not only for her notes in the margin in all six of those early drafts, but also for the encouragement to keep going. “I would have never imagined when I first started Western Civilization that that would have even been a possibility in all possible worlds, that I could write a paper that would one day be published,” Frances said. “She was just really encouraging with it and really supportive. I think having that support made me want to follow through even more. It made me feel like I could do it.” As she begins to think about career plans, Frances thinks she might want to play a similar role in the lives of others.
She had to go through the struggle of a home, school, and social life. This is why I loved this book. Sometimes I want to be invisible, but others won’t let me. Melinda goes through this every day. I kept reading and reading because I wanted her to have the happy ending she deserved.
She ended up in about the same situation as her mother. It is the parents’ job to set a good example for their children to mimic, teaching them along the way. Rosa Lee obviously failed to do so. This explains why most of her children ended up in the situations that they did. Rosa Lee was the one that her children had to look up to and the ones that decided to follow in her footsteps ended up in the same situation as her.
My experiences with reading and writing My earliest recollections of both my reading and writing experiences are not pleasant and to date these experiences have not changed. Prior to my kindergarden days my mother would teach me at home the letters of the alphabet in the hope that my entry into school life would me smoother. I am not too sure that she succeeded. I recall my first day in the kindergarden class, the teacher started off with figures; I thought to myself smooth sailing. I thought that all day this is what I would doing, little did I know that reading would be next.
She was also respectful of the fact I am a lesbian and did not treat me differently due to that fact. The first session was very effective and I felt I left with some options to successfully deal with my current situation. To briefly summarise, the session began with me talking a little bit about myself and what I do for work and study. I discussed problems that I am experiencing at work and how they are affecting me. I discussed how I am not feeling understood or supported at home and also mentioned issues that arise for me from my childhood that I have been working on.
I truly felt where she had been as if was taking place as I was reading. She may have pent up feelings she needed to release, but I feel she was doing just that as she wrote this. But obviously it didn’t hinder
