Through the years, man has witnessed its evolution from a single-celled organism to be the most complex organism called the homo sapien. We’ve seen ourselves increase in number and recently, our growth has become exponential. More importantly, we’ve seen civilizations arise, grew and eventually died. Along with these civilizations, we developed a world system that basically ruled our lives. We’ve seen monarchies enliven the divine right that god had supposedly given man. We’ve seen dictatorships that have impeded with our rights. We’ve seen democracies strive to become as transparent and as participatory as possible. We now find democracy as the most ideal government because of the ideals it upholds. Our age has also brought about two axial principles – tribalism and globalism. Both of them are characterized to be threatening to democracy. Globalism or the McWorld has four imperatives: market, resource, information-technology and ecological imperative. When we talk about the market imperative, we talk about how politics in a market setting. This imperative shows us that our world is dictated by how our markets rise and fall. States were forced to expand their markets in search for economic stability. Because of this, the world has created so much accessibility to allow free trade and free markets. The need for international peace and stability has heightened in order to continue the trade activities that foster economic growth. However, markets wear down sovereignty. Entities, like the OPEC, Greenpeace and international banks, which rose because of markets find that the organizing principle is the need for trade and not nationhood. Secondly, the resource imperative tells us that “every nation, it turns out, needs something another nation has; some nations almost have nothing they need.” Our nations today are largely dependent on the resources available and
