It has been 50 years since African Americans were granted “equal rights” in the United States, but most mainstream media still contributes to black nihilism today. Jet magazine is one of the few printed examples that strive to uplift and empower blacks. African American newspapers and magazines didn’t become popular until the Fifties, making it challenging for black people to know what was going on with other blacks outside of their own neighborhood.
