/Adrien Ruiz Monday, October 5th 2015 Criminal Law/Sociology Essay #2 Jeffrey Dahmer was a notorious serial murderer. He drugged and raped 17 men, and was convicted on 17 murders. The first sentence was later dropped to 15 due to his not succeeding in the murder of Tracy Edwards. He attempted pleading insanity but it didn’t follow through. The trial was a very short one. He was sentenced to 15 consecutive life sentences. Jeffrey Dahmer’s home was filled with incriminating evidence, and there was no escaping being convicted. He eventually admitted to the murders and rapes. At first Dahmer’s argument was that he was emotionally unstable, due to his alcoholism and childhood. They used proof of Dahmer’s decisions to protect himself during sex, and the acid to get rid of the bodies to create his sentencing. They jury said that evidence helped determine that he knew what he was doing. The jury came up with the verdict and sentenced him to 957 years in prison. Dahmer was said to be stoic as the verdict was read and people in the court claimed that their faith in the judicial system was restored. The court’s decision moved him to Ohio to carry out his sentence. I feel that the court made a correct decision. The choices he made when he was dismembering, had the drums of acid and bodies, and wore a condom obviously showed that he was thinking of ways to avoid being caught. He had evaded the cops on two occasions before they actually took Tracy back with his information. Dahmer was smart and was knowledgeable of what he was doing.
