Jeffrey Dahmer suffered through a painful childhood and adolescence as many people do. But the vast majority of people who suffer this way do not become serial killers. Dahmer murdered his first victim in 1978 and went on to kill 16 others before being caught and sentenced to 15 life terms in prison. Distinguish between the influences of heredity and environment on the person's psychological development. Be sure to specify which area of psychological development: moral, emotional, or
This essay will describe and assess Gary Leon Ridgway’s story, from childhood to his darker days. Robert Hare’s theory of crime and psychopath categories will be taken into consideration and used to more appropriately understand the man dubbed the Green River Killer. At the end of this essay, whether or not Gary Ridgway can be classified as a primary, secondary, or dissocial psychopath. Gary Ridgway began murdering women in the 1980’s and continued into the 1990’s, he murdered so many that his court statements state that he had lost count (Guillen, 2006). The majority of the murders took place between 1982-1984 (Guillen, 2006).

Rodney King had reached a settlement worth 4 million dollars and later on two of the four officers were sent to prison and the other two were acquitted. In TKAM Tom Robinson was sentenced to prison for alleged rape and was sentenced for death. Tom Robinson’s trial wasn’t really a fair one because the whole jury was twelve white men which were biased toward the victim. Tom Robinson was sent to a local prison house to be detained until he goes to the federal prison but he escaped that night and was shot by one of the officers in charge there while he was running. Tom Robinson’s case was an example of injustice due to the fact that the jurors had not gathered any evidence that proved Tom Robinsons guilt, Atticus had proved the court wrong but that was not enough for a racist and biased group of jurors to allow Tom Robinson to leave freely.

Graham was convicted of murder in 1987, after 14 yrs of wrongful imprisonment; the state gave Graham a £10 check and a coat that was 5 times too big. Whereas David Williams, Pride of the Canadian forces, Williams was set free, until further digging found that he had murdered and assaulted many women, he was finally convicted, after writings and photographic records were found. Additional research has found that accents can affect whether the defendant is seen as innocent or guilty. Mahoney and Dixon (2002) found that `Brummies` were more likely to be found guilty of armed robbery than cheque fraud compared to a defendant with a posh accent. Race of the defendant and jury`s play a massive part in the courtroom.
Jack the Ripper The definition of a serial killer is usually an individual who has killed three or more people over a time period of more than a month. Between the murders there have been what is called a down time, "a cooling of period". Often there is a sexual element involved in the killings and the offenders usually act alone and the victims often have something in common such as race, age or similar appearance. I have always been fascinated by the psychology of criminals and chose to write about Jack the Ripper because he does not quite fit the typical profile of a serial killer yet he is one of the most infamous serial killer to this day. The fact that his identity is unknown makes it even more interesting.
