Explain how it can explain crimes: ( i) Head Trauma: Much research has been conducted about head trauma and the links it has to crime. Dr. Kiehl, a neuroscientist, uses fMRI technology to detect brain abnormalities in people with psychopathy. His research has found defects in the paralimbic system that he believes relate to psychopathy. He feels that if we can detect such abnormalities in childhood or adolescence, perhaps we could prevent the individual from actually ‘turning into’ a psychopath through specific treatment program” (Grohol, 2010). However, when discussing body type and characteristics, Dahmar fit into several categories. One would be Schizoid, dysplastic, ectomorph and later mesomorph. Jeffrey Dahmar suffered from several mental disorders. From early childhood, Dahmar was acquiring many mental illnesses due to his physical and emotional abuse. Dahmar was molested as a child by his neighbor, which may be why he chose to inflict his crimes on men instead of women. He suffered from Schizophrenia. The divorce between his parents played a huge role in his feelings of abandonment and rejection. He suffered from pedophilia which might explain some of his sexual tendencies. He enjoyed having sexual acts with the dead corpse which would also be diagnosed as necrophilia. Cannibalism in this case would be considered a mental disorder stemming from his childhood of being alone with no food and hungry, however it also played a part in his fetish of wanting his victims to remain a part of him
