Historical Interview With Stella Richardson By: Chase Silver Presented to: Prof. Bob Mathisen American Thought & Culture 1:00 3/1/2013 “God has watched over me all my life, I have been saved from some incredible experiences and I feel very blessed because of that” -Stella Richardson. My Grandmother was born in 1932 in Portsmouth, England, which was one of the major seaports for England at the time. When World War II began my Grandmother was only six years old but even being how young she was at the time she is still able to recount about what it was like to grow up in a war infested Europe and nightly bombings. The first and only question I had to ask my Grandmother was where she was born. My Grandmothers father was a tailor and owned two businesses in the town, one of which had an apartment above it, and that is where my Grandmother lived up to the start of the war.

My name is Freddy, I was born and raised in NY and when I graduated high school I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. I have been serving for the past 15 years and will continue to do so for at least the next 5 years then retire. I have served as a “grunt” in multiple combat zones including Kosovo, Iraq twice, and most recently Afghanistan and have seen my fair share of the fighting, but fighting for my country is what I signed up to do. I am currently stationed at Camp Lejeune North Carolina and live in the small town of Richlands with my wife of almost 10 years now and our two children, an 8yr old girl and a 4 year old little boy. I am currently pursuing a major in criminal justice, as I have always had inspirations of getting involved
In April of 2003, I was deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. On the day after Bagdad fell, my partner and I had been treating injured civilians. After treating patients for about 13-14 hours straight, I was finally about to sit down to eat something. Just as I opened my Meal, Ready to Eat (MRE), I heard a voice say, “Doc, we got one more for you.” I sighed heavily, put my MRE down and began to get up. As I looked up, I saw the little girl that would assure me that I would be in the medical field for the rest of my life.
