I will provide the reasons for the selection of this theory, along with a process to implement this plan in my current work environment. A description of barriers and challenges to attempting to implement this theory within the workplace will be discussed. A critique of this theory will be discussed. Overview According to Parker and Smith (2010) The Theory of Human Caring was developed between 1975 and 1979 while I was teaching at the University of Colorado. It emerged from my own view of nursing, combined and informed by my doctoral studies in educational, clinical, and social psychology. It was my initial attempt to bring meaning and focus to nursing as an emerging discipline and distinct health profession that had its own unique values, knowledge, and practices, and its own ethic and mission to society. p.352. As nurses we come out of school with our own group of beliefs and views on how we should take care of patients. We soon realize that those beliefs are actually beliefs pulled from different theorists that we learned about throughout our schooling.
