Topic of Lyrics - The topic of this song is something that would go along with a party or dancing type of social event. As he says "Take my hand baby", and "You said you's fast". Genre/Style - His music was something that was placed under the Chess R&B/Chicago sound. It was powerful, and very distinctive. The distortion of the electric guitar with bass and drums to accompany it provides a very upbeat sound.
She decides to join Titus group to see the moon and what the moon can offer to these first timers’ visitors. Time after they meet they decided to go out to a different club and have fun: "We told her we were thinking about going to some club called the Rumble Spot that we'd heard about on the feed" (Anderson 23). Jazz became so popular during these times, because life in America back than was rough for a lot of people. Some jazz was sung about these problems and how people dealt with them and their opinions on life. Other types of jazz were played to bring excitement to people’s everyday lives and give them a time where they could dance and enjoy life. One of the first types of jazz that contributed a lot to the jazz we know today was ragtime. Ragtime was big during the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s and originated in the southern United States.
Swing music was dance music performed by big bands and featured complex solo improve acts by some of the best musicians in the scene. Swing was broadcast on the radio from coast to coast nightly and many Americans would tune in to dance all night to the upbeat tempo. In the 1930s, the Kansas City Jazz movement marked the transition from the big band style usually seen to the more improvised bebop. Bebop started to emerge in the 1940s and shifted from the danceable styles like swing, to more of a challenging musician’s music. Differing greatly from swing music, bebop was music that was supposed to be enjoyed by listening to and not danced to.
The danceable swing style of big bands and bandleaders such as Benny Goodman was the dominant form of American popular music from 1935 to 1946, a period known as the Swing Era. The verb "to swing" is also used as a term of praise for playing that has a strong rhythmic "groove" or drive. History: 1920s: Origins The styles of jazz that were popular from the late teens through the late 1920s were usually played with rhythms with a two beat feel, and often attempted to reproduce the style of contrapuntal improvisation developed by the first generation of jazz musicians in New Orleans. In the late 1920s, however, larger ensembles using written arrangements became the norm, and a subtle stylistic shift took place in the rhythm, which developed a four beat feel with a smoothly syncopated style of playing the melody, while the rhythm section supported it with a steady four to the bar. Like jazz, swing was created by African Americans, and its impact on the overall American culture was such that it marked and named an entire era of the USA, the swing era – as the 1920s had been termed "The Jazz Age".
The second text that I chose is Fly Me to the Moon by TGP as it combines both music and lyrics to draw a view on an event. In this case the composer gives the audience her perspective on love in form a ‘euphoria’ or euphoric event. The song starts off with a faster than normal beat symbolising a heart racing then introducing a high frequency melody that is played repeatedly. This is done to give the song a fantasy feel, a dream
Jazz is America’s classical music that evolved from the blending of African and European cultures. The artists are in an improvised jazz ensemble, and they are equal partners in the developing musical selections. Jazz music originated in New Orleans. In the late 1700s-1840 there was a common meeting place for most slaves called, Congo Square. Slaves were permitted to dance, sing, and play drums on Sundays.
The song “Out drink the Moon” was about him singing about how he drinks late at night while staring out at the moon while thinking about some girl, then he starts singing to the moon asking the moon what to do about his situation. I these two songs were amazing because they were just unique from all the other songs that I had heard him
Pink Floyd were influenced by a number of artists throughout their career, helping them towards the sound they achieved on Dark Side of the Moon. Miles Davis, one of the most important musicians of the second half of the twentieth century, helped create modern jazz as we know it. It is reported that Richard Wright would often lose himself in jazz records, particularly the work of Miles Davis, through his hard bop style in the 1950’s, experimental ambient sound in the 1960’s, and his rock and funk records in the 1970’s. Wright has said himself that one of his favourite pieces ever was Miles Davis’ take on Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess from the 1959 Kind of Blue album, which was a key influence to the composition of the chord sequence which forms the song Us and Them from Dark Side of the Moon. The Beatles were a band that influenced Pink Floyd greatly in the lead up to the release of Dark Side of the Moon; most bands were influenced by the Beatles at this time.
Playing at the Liverpool Empire in 1986, he spontaneously broke into a 15-minute medley of Beatles songs. "That wasn't very professional," he admitted, "but it sure was fun." Denver founded an environmental group, Windstar, and visited Russia and China to discuss the preservation of the planet. He loved space exploration and applied, unsuccessfully, to be an astronaut. He sang about the 1986 space shuttle disaster in "Flying For
