“The Ballad of the Sad Cafe” is a story of a love triangle in which McCullers has illustrated physical changes and also their behavioural changes in all the three characters, specifically Cousin Lymon. Cousin Lymon was an abnormal looking grotesque character “the man was a hunchback. He was scarcely more than four feet tall” (6) He was not very attractive “His crooked little legs seemed too thin to carry the weight of his warped chest and the hump that sat on his shoulders” (7). Cousin Lymon was very smart since he accomplished to fool Miss Amelia that he was her cousin “hunchback scrambled among these belongings and brought out an old photograph” (8). Cousin Lymon proofs himself to be the cousin of Miss Amelia through this old photograph when it was even hard to distinguish the faces of the two ladies in the photograph.
But as the story goes, Wilbur soon realizes that Charlotte, the spider has no choice but to kill insects for her own survival. In Mercutio’s description, Queen Mab and her wagon symbolize the dreams of sleepers. Thus, he is stressing that a dream is just as capable of being broken as these materials. Finally, Queen Mab’s wagoner is depicted as, “a small grey-coated gnat, / Not half so big as a round little worm” (1.4.64-65). Lazy maids were said to have worms breeding in their fingers. The worms were so little that that couldn’t be seen, which means that Queen Mab’s coachman is tinier than a worm that is invisible to the human eye.
John Smith Sloths If someone was to ask you to name some of the dumbest mammals in the world, odds are that the sloth would come up as an answer. Sloths are one of the weirdest animals in the world, but sometimes weirdness animals have intellectual minds. Bill Gates quotes, “I will always choose a lazy person to do a difficult job because, he will find an easy way to do it.” Concept of laziness has its pluses for sloth due to its protection of itself and simple foods that grow beside it. Sloth’s laziness gives out the notion of finding short cuts to survive through life by hardly doing anything. Sloth’s are an odd looking mammal, 16 to 24 inches long and weighing 5 to 10 pounds.
All the females generally possess minor roles and they are not prominently featured, but their actions prove to be very important. In other words, the women in Gilgamesh are constantly boosting the egos of the male characters or providing them with essential advice. For instance, Shamhat, who is depicted as a lowly temple prostitute, exerts her power to tame Enkidu and transform him from a wild man into a human being: “The harlot opened her mouth, saying to Enkidu: ‘Eat the bread, Enkidu, essential to life, drink the ale, the lot of the land!’ (George 14). In this scene, Shamhat is giving Enkidu reason and teaching him how to behave like a human being. Moreover, Shamhat displays how women were used as instruments in Mesopotamian society.
Sammy also judges the social class of “Queenie” by her voice and the herring snacks that she was buying. Sammy’s judge mentality is also evident by the way he so critically analyzes the girls appearances, deeming them attractive or unattractive based on his own personal preferences. Sammy seems to have a very negative outlook toward responsibility. He does not like his job at
Britt also states that thin people are downers. She gives plenty of examples of how thin people aren’t fun, they have long lists of logical things and think a 2,000 point plan leads to happiness; while thin people are prognosing, expounding and pricking at things because they have their skinny little acts together. Fat people are acquainted with the night, with luck and playing it by ear. Fat people will “like you even if you’re irregular and have acne….fat people will take you in.” Analysis: The purpose of this brief essay is to entertain and show Britt’s perspective on how thin people differ from fat people. Britt’s audience is fat people.
Elisa Allen's physical appearance is very mannish yet still allows a hint of a feminine side to peek through. On the first page of the story it states “Her face was eager and mature and handsome; even her work with the scissors was over-eager, over-powerful” In the story Elisa Allen is a sexually repressed and discouraged women is isolated from society ,however she still retains her values. She is also trapped in a fruitless marriage with her husband. The man who stopped by the ranch was a handyman. He is described as a very big man with grey hair and beard.
Steinbeck uses character relationships to create an impression of the characters so that the reader can begin to imagine what they are like. Curley’s wife is seen to be a lowly, devious woman by the majority in the farm that will do anything and hurt anyone to make herself feel better. As she is a woman, at the time she is seen as an inferior to the male workers. She is married to the bosses’ son, Curley, and their relationship is a poor one. We can see that Curley clearly treats her as a trophy wife as her name ‘Curley’s wife’ shows that she is practically his property and he owns her.
The Topic I love the focus of Jill's essay. So many essays on an influential person have a tone of hero worship as the writer tells us how wonderful Mom or Dad or dead Grandma or Coach or Uncle Harvey is. Jill, however, focuses on someone who in many ways isn't even likable. Susan Lewis is unreliable, rude, poorly educated, and terrible at running a business. She is, as Jill points out, an unlikely person to choose for an essay on an influential person.
