Jack LaLanne My Role Model Professor Rollins Jonn Souter COLL148 June 12, 2011 There are many great individuals in this world. People whose determination and passion propel them into a leadership role. Where they make an impact on all they come across. Among these individuals is Jack LaLanne. He was a pioneer on the fitness frontier. He had a vision for a healthier lifestyle was years before its time. I look up to him because he took his vision and acted on it. LaLanne strived for personal greatness, and with it he dedicated his life to motivating others to better themselves through fitness and healthier living. He gave no excuses, and allowed no excuses. His message was simple, get out of your chair, exercise, and feel better (Jack LaLanne)! His vision became a reality and took hold of the nation like a wildfire, and spanned over many generations to come. Jack LaLanne was born September 26, 1914 in San Francisco, California. One of the highlights of LaLanne’s life is that, he opened the nations first health spa in 1936(Jack LaLanne Biography). Along with the opening the first spa, he was also the first to have a health food bar in a gym, as well as to have the first coed health club. He designed the first exercise equipment that is in modern gyms today, such as the first leg extension machines, and the first pulley machines using cables, and the first weight selectors. LaLanne has set a couple world records, such as the most push-ups in 23 minutes and has been the recipient of various national recognitions. Among them being, he was a founding member of President’s Council on Physical Fitness under President Kennedy, President’s Council on Physical Fitness Lifetime Achievement Award, and he received National Academy of Televisions Arts and Sciences Gold Circle Award to commemorate being in the Television Industry for over 50 years.
