Violence is so widespread throughout from the top of the cartels and government, down to the users. Cartels use violence to eliminate other cartels for territory or against governments, which leads to more weapons on the streets. Violence from users stem from them stealing or using violence for money to buy more drugs. Human smuggling into the country by using humans as mules to smuggle drugs into the country. Children have always been a concern when it comes to drug use.

The government has made many attempts for prevention, but the cartels still earn in tens of billions of dollars a year. Illegal weaponry has gotten into the hands of the cartels and gangs and battles with troops have become more difficult because of the weapons they possess. Recently, drug traffickers threatened to kill one police officer in Juarez every 48 hours unless Police Chief Roberto Orduña Cruz stepped down. When he refused, his deputy turned up
The Gulf Cartel The Gulf Cartel is an organized crime unit that operates out of Mexico, primarily distributing drugs throughout the United States. The Gulf Cartel has several rivals, with the Sinaloa Cartel at the head of the pack. This particular type of organized crime unit (Mexican drug cartels) began making an impact in the early ‘80s and has grown stronger and more violent over the years. The structures of the many drug cartels have been referred to as being run like a “business,” but with violent consequences and the Gulf Cartel is no exception. The increase in power within the drug cartels makes the future of organized crime seem bleak regarding society, but positive for the OC units themselves.

The topic of legalizing marijuana is a very controversial issue in American politics today. Marijuana has been vilified in America for over 70 years. Despite it’s many practical uses, medicinal and industrial, our Federal government insists on maintaining the status quo that the growth, possession and use of marijuana is criminal despite the evidence that the legalization of marijuana would have a positive influence on America. The illegality of marijuana has hurt society more than it has helped, legalization would benefit America both economically and medically. Twenty years ago, only 16% of the public said the use of marijuana should be legal and 81% said it should not be legal.
