Unit 1 Assignment Kaplan University IT331-01 Part 1: Introduction The world of technology today has so many avenues to get your resume or “face” seen in the job market. From Facebook to Linkedin to Job websites to My Space, you can search for jobs, look at requests and even just put yourself out there. I have many times in my career been approached with a job opportunity through a social website more so than an official job website. When you discuss your skills or even just update where you work that can trigger a networking society. I think people will navigate towards the associations that they are more comfortable in, in their career fields or what they can afford.
After reviewing networking sites that are free to join and networking sites that charge a membership fee, I feel that they both offer very similar benefits. They both offer a way to connect with other people and build a network of contacts that can help further your career by providing new knowledge and granting access to resources which otherwise may not have been available. Both free and paid sites also offer the option to search for careers and available job openings within a career field of choice. I think the paid networking sites offer advantages and benefits that free sites can’t. One of the benefits of becoming a member of a paid networking site, such as the Association of Information Technology (IT) Professionals, is that the site is comprised of members who are in the same career field and have the same interests.
Sir James Dyson: Learning to Achieve Sir James Dyson: Learning to Achieve The meaning of the word innovation means to translate an idea or invention into something of good use for mankind. Even though the product is created and has a price that must be paid it can be used to further humanity. Most people usually think of creators or inventors to meet a certain type of profile to be mentally focused and determined to be able to make things. We look deeper into this profile and we find a cross in the road. Most innovators are looked at to also be entrepreneurs.
Jobs can be advertised in all sorts of places from newspaper ads, job postings online at sites such as Careerbuilder.com and Monster.com, or even over through the multitude of applications that come through. Referrals are one of the most widely used and cost effective methods of recruiting; it is also one of the more targeted types of recruiting. Referrals are almost exclusively done through word of mouth by current or past employees and thus rarely have any advertising cost. The major benefit to referrals is the low cost and the intent to hire a like-minded individual. Hiring a referral increases the
Find one article from a database related to this career and include a paragraph about the article and what database it came from. The database I chose to search is O*Net; http://www.onetonline.org/. This is a database of careers and occupations, their related classifications, typical salary ranges, job descriptions, etc. This database is used by employers and job seekers alike for a variety of different information that is provides. The article of information I read about detectives from the site provided that the mean salary for this position in 2011 was $71,770, and approximately 119,000 people are employed in this profession.
Iron Dragon has the skillset necessary to perform break/fix work on a variety of equipment. There are many companies who focus on one or two lines of work, meaning that they only work on computers, on networks, on printers, or some other such equipment and rely solely on those few areas. Iron Dragon, on the other hand, will perform break/fix work on computers, printers, servers, POS equipment, peripherals, televisions, precision hand tools (such as micrometers and calipers), and optical measuring equipment as a large part of its break/fix services. Another of Iron Dragon’s strengths is its partnership with Dell. This is seen as a strength because Iron Dragon now has the capability of selling computers, servers, parts, and services directly to customers and (hopefully) opening up another source of revenue for the company.
All of the openness encourages employees to freely interact with each other from anywhere in the building and create their own problem-solving groups, while still having the resources they need to sit down, connect to the internet, and draw up plans with all of the outside companies, the customers, and each other. On Alcoa’s website the company dedicates an area to ways that the company seeks innovation, where they give a small explanation to why they are utilizing this open system stating “The speed of change in today's global economy demands a collaborative approach to innovation. At Alcoa, we understand that today's world is faster, more complex
Industry Matrix From my research I found Wiggins Payroll’s key success factors to be client training, user friendly web portal, human resource support and fair prices. In reference to the industry matrix you can see Wiggin’s in comparison to two other payroll service companies. Client training is a big factor in the success for Wiggin’s. Many client reviews have justified just that, for example, “They cost less, they

Kaplan University MT302 Organizational Behavior Professor Pam DeLotell July 21, 2013 While mentoring is very important I never thought about having a mentor in the business world. There are a few things someone could learn from their mentor that would make them better and stronger once they enter into the business world. Having a mentor is an opportunity to develop communication skills, expand your viewpoints, and consider new ways of approaching situations. Mentors can suggest several paths you might take and can also help you develop personal qualities and competencies. They can also help you expand your knowledge and build your professional networks because they usually are more experienced.
