According to a survey, sixty-two percent of U.S. households are home to at least one pet. Cats and dogs rank at the top of the most popular pets of today. Thirty-nine percent of those households have at least one dog, while thirty-three percent of those households have at least one cat. Then there are the households that have cats and dogs in cohabitation. Dogs and cats are similar and yet different in many different ways. They both are mammals, they can have one to eight and an average of four to five in any given litter, and are a very domesticated species. Another similarity involves their sleep pattern; they love to take naps at any given time of day. Depending on the relationship between the dog or cat and its owner, they are willing to sleep on the bed with their owner. Another similarity between dogs and cats is that they have fur. Their coats come in many different colors, textures, and lengths. Unfortunately, they both can have fleas, which is uncomfortable for both the pet and its owner. They both have claws, sharp teeth and four legs. Both cats and dogs have tails that are n extension from the spine, Tails help them keep balance while the can also show emotion. But while dogs can only move their tails back and forth, cats have full movement in their tails, save picking things up. Regular visits to the vet for vaccinations, and check ups are needed by both species. Dogs and cats are very distinct in their vocals; while dogs have growling and barking, cats have hissing and yowling. Cats are very independent: they can bath themselves, they don’t come when called and they often want to be alone. Not to mention, they love to catch birds and rodents and leave them for their owners as a present. Dogs are very dependent: they need to be bathed periodically; they come when they are called, always want to be around people, and love to go on walks.
