Choice 3: Issues Facing the American Education System The American education systems is the molding clay of the future. It is a very vast system which has many positive aspects as well as many flaws. Among these, two of the more important and commonly debated issues are professional pay and child nutrition. Professional pay is an issue regarding the salaries of teachers and other educational professions. One positive to this is that it allows for relatively lower taxes but it also compensates quality teachers and professors whom are being pushed towards better paying jobs. The average starting annual salary for teachers in America is around $30,000, which with today’s economy that’s hardly enough to support one’s self, let alone a family. Other occupations requiring the same amount of education can offer up to $60,000 and up. Teachers are very important to society’s well being and they should be appreciated as so. After all, they are training the leaders of the future. Another pushing issue in the educational system is child nutrition. One positive side of this is that school food is fairly inexpensive. On the other hand, the food provided in schools are usually very unhealthy choices. Obesity in America is at an all-time high and being served cheeseburgers and pizza at school is not helping. The Healthy and Hunger-Free Kids Act (HHFKA) passed in 2010 is thankfully aimed to allow access to healthy foods and provide other child nutrition programs . Thes both are very important issues and need to be taken seriously. Works Cited
