Over the course of two days I observed my roommate Kendra’s eating habits. The catch was I couldn’t get caught. It wasn’t easy taking into consideration that we’re always around each other, but I made it without her even knowing I was spying on her. My roommate eats like any average college student would. You know, the typical sweet cake, pizza, chips, and other fattening things that should be eaten in moderation. I started spying on September 10th. That morning she had a Quaker Oatmeal to go Cinnamon Square. While she went away to her second class of the day, I dug in her trashcan for the oatmeal wrapper. It had 220 calories, and 35 calories from fat, and 22grams of sugar. For lunch she had a greasy personal pan pepperoni pizza from the Student Commons and a Sierra Mist to wash it all down. The pizza has 610 calories, 240 calories from fat, 6grams of sugar, and 1410milligrams of sodium (Pizza Hut). The drink that came with her meal was 20 ounces. That 20-ounce Sierra Mist had 240 calories, 62grams of sugar, and 55 milligrams of sodium (PepsiCo). That night I suggested we go to Chili’s. I suggested this so that I could have more things to record. I must say that the idea was very clever of me. At Chili’s she ordered buffalo wings with honey mustard sauce and a side of fries with an ice-cold strawberry lemonade. When we went to Chilis I was jotting down notes on what she ordered in my phone. I had the phone in my lap so it would look like I was texting rather than recording. The Chili’s buffalo wings had a whopping 1050 calories, 67 grams of fat, 2 grams of sugar, and 3640 milligrams of sodium. The French fries had 410 calories, 17 grams of fat, 1370 grams of sodium, and the ice-cold strawberry lemonade had 160 calories in it, with 39 grams of sugar, and 40 milligrams of sodium (Chilis).
