In Libya, rebel groups are currently fighting their dictator Muammar Gaddafi to gain rights, and a new democratic government. The rebels came together in huge masses and held peaceful protests and rallies, but their human rights were violated when Gaddafi ordered the military troops to open fire and kill the innocent civilians. An international organization known as the United Nations was formed in 1945 after the defeat of the Axis Powers in order to ensure protection for innocent civilians from situations like in Libya. This union would also help to sustain world peace, and prevent a third world war from breaking out. On December 10th, 1948, the General Assembly of the United Nations “proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights” (UN). The Human Rights affirms “All human beings Universal Declaration of Human are born free and equal in dignity and rights,” disregarding race, sex, language, political position, social position, and any other status (UN). If any country or person is seen as violating human rights, it is up to international organizations such as the United Nations to address the situation. The leaders of the violations will be tried in front of a court and consequences will be deemed in the respect of the human rights standards. Unfortunately, many of these violations remain unnoticed and ignored by both the world and the international organizations that were designed to help and prevent these situations from occurring. Many cases of genocide continue to exist without any interference from other leaders and organizations. Discrimination against people also persists globally without any form of punishment. Even if organizations do take action, there is often impunity for past human rights violators.
