Is Media Biased? The modern world revolves around media. It has become the central hub of all the information and news available. Anytime, anywhere news has to be made known amongst the public, various means of media is used. News reaches people everywhere and all the time, through the various forms of media. Newspapers, magazines are a few means and of course there are the more popular social media websites such as Face book and Twitter. However, media does not always show us the real picture. There have been many cases where the news has been twisted just for the sake of changing the public’s perspective on the matter. Governments have often influenced the media to manipulate news stories in their favor. Bias had, has and will continue making its mark in media. The governments of the world are a principle factor in media bias. They tend to conceal certain news from the citizens. Through legislations, they often filter the information reaching the public. In this manner, they manipulate the public’s point of view on important government decisions. A befitting example would be the governments of most of the GCC countries. They keep delicate news such as murder, gang attacks or any other sort of violent crimes away from the newspapers and the internet. They do so in the interest of the reputation of the country. Hiding such news gives a safe and secure impression of the nation. However, in turn they fail to educate the public on how to prevent or act in case of being subjected to such crimes. This is not the only case where news has been hidden from the public. In the United States of America, a lot of important issues have been either hidden or twisted through the power of words.
