But there is a big difference between using physical punishment to discipline and physical abuse. The point of disciplining children is to teach them right from wrong, not to make them live in fear. However, it is impossible to know whether marital strife is a cause of child abuse, or if both the marital strife and the abuse are caused by tendencies in the abuser. Substance abuse can be a major contributing factor to child abuse. One U.S. study found that parents with documented substance abuse, most commonly alcohol, cocaine, and heroin, were much more likely to mistreat their children, and were also much more likely to reject court-ordered services and treatments (Besharov, 1990).
Therefore, according to the latest studies of some organizations such as children protection, spanking can create physiological problems such as depression in a child. It makes parents believe that spanking children can harm their children. Spanking children is not a good way to discipline them because children can get some mental problems. For example, children who are usually spanked by their parents believe that they hate them, so children get depression because of spanking. There is a chance for children to show resilience in the face of witnessing this violence. Positive parenting, re-establishing trust, and being attuned to children’s emotions can play a big role in diminishing the harmful effects of this trauma.

I do not believe that schools should ever lay a hand on my child that should be left for the parents. If there is a major problem that was caused by my child I should be called to the school to handle that problem. “The fact that over 90% of Americans are spanked as children, and most are not violent, abusive, or criminal adults, contradicts an assertion that corporal punishment unilaterally will have negative effects on children” (Oas, 2010). So if a child is spanked and it does not make them a violent person, then why is it so bad for a parent to discipline their child?
Can we really raise children to be moral if we discipline children immorally? The way we discipline our children determines the way they understand what they did wrong, how they will behave in the future and how they will discipline their own children. Unfortunately much of what we do in the name of discipline is immoral and causes more harm than good. This is why bullying has been becoming a more serious problem. Have you ever gotten a spanking from a parent or adult, but then were told “hitting and slapping are not okay,” by that same adult? You probably felt confused or angry and asked them, “why is it ok for you to slap me, but it’s not okay for me to slap you?” This is one of a few reasons why I do not believe spanking is an effective form of punishment and can lead to aggressive behavior in children. It can cause confusion, which can then lead to stress, which can then result in aggressive behavior from the child.

The first fact is that spanking confuses the child. The reason that spanking confuses them is simply this; parents are the example of the difference between right and wrong and all spanking is doing is telling the child is that every time somebody does something wrong they should be smacked for the mistake they made.
Drugs are good. Just kidding but shouldn’t we at least consider the consequences of the zero tolerance policy? Drug abuse in schools today is a major problem. Zero tolerance policy is a great way to stop the drugs but some of these rules are enforced just a little too harsh. I have seen drugs ruin people’s lives and tear apart their family, there is no doubt that anyone should be doing drugs, let alone kids.
