Most football players wont even realize when they have concussions. When a football player experiences a concussion they experience a temporary, trauma- induced an alteration in mental status (Tyler and Nelson 1). Also the player will hear a “bell-ringing” noise, which can cause lasting physical and mental injury, or even result in death (1). According to Tyler and Nelson, “Studies released by the American Academy of Neurology and the National Brain Injury Association indicate that 10% of college and 20% of high school football players receive brain injuries in any given season” (1). Many f these concussions are temporary, but if a player receives their first concussion are four times more likely to receive a second than someone who has never had one (1).
Murders by firearm rates are 17.5 times higher than in twenty-two other populous high-income nations combined. The United States is one of the most violent nations in the world. Because of this, suicide rates are very high, and costs are very high. Nearly as many citizens are killed each month, as were killed in the first seven years of the Iraq war. The suicide rate of children between the ages of five and fourteen is eleven times higher than that of twenty-five other countries.

In the NCAA, players are subject to random testing with 48 hours notice, and are also randomly tested throughout the annual bowl games.  The NCAA will usually take approximately 20 percent of the players on a football team to test on a specific day.  Anabolic steroids and other performance enhancing drugs are also used throughout high school football.
Although the leagues attempt to ensure player safety with numerous safety equipment regulations, such as helmets, pads, and lengthy lists of illegal plays and moves, numerous players each season receive extreme injuries. These kids’s start out young in little leagues playing their heart off, where they eventually grow up and play for their high schools. High school football, teenage boys all over the country spend countless hours in their schools weight room trying to be the fastest, strongest, and best football player around. College scouts set out everyday to find these young men, but they are extremely specific on what they want and rarely settle for less. Size is one factor that separates an average player from a college football player. Every position on the football field has a certain size demand.

Pass rushers are one of the most penalized players on the field. Mainly because of the new penalties like no hands to the helmet, and the more strict rules about hitting the quarterback. Another major area for flags are helmet to helmet contact. The penalties for these kinds of hits are too severe and need to be lessened.
