Senior research Alex Aguilar Is dolphin drive hunting ethical? I started out my research by just looking at what exactly drive hunting was. After looking at what came up I found out some basic information and was able to look further into my topic. I was able to form more in a depth question and find different sources but none of them were really great or reliable. I was able to find enough info from these sources to further narrow down my research question and be able to look at more diverse information like how many dolphins are hunted, for what reasons, or where the hunts are at. After sifting through several sources and finding lots of basic info on this topic I was able to start searching on a special engine. After starting my search on google scholar I found a paper on exactly what I had wanted my research to be on. The paper had a very large bibliography and I was able to get a lot of great information and good sources from it. After conducting very serious research on my topic I have found that out many new things about dolphin drive hunting in Japan. According to an article by National Geographic titled “Cove movie seeks to end dolphin hunt” more than 2,500 dolphins die in these “drive hunts” in Taiji(leading town for these drive hunts) every year; across the entire country, a total of 23,000 small cetaceans suffer the same fate. Also the dolphins are herded by using poles thrust down into the water, by banging on these poles it creates a noise that creates a wall of sound that pushes the dolphins toward where the hunters are and are then killed or captured(SaveJapanDolpins.org). This must be terrifying for the dolphins since they end up losing their navigational ability and are unable to find anything.
