The Death Penalty Reviewed Matthew Christiani 5-22-12 Phil-05 In the debate over capital punishment, the opponents argue that the death penalty should be legalized because; it is by implementation, that we have been able to decrease the murder rate in society by placing such a high penalty on murder. On the other side of the debate, the supporters argue that capital punishment should not be legalized because it promotes the injustice in which it is intended to prevent. In this paper, I will argue that the stronger of the two arguments is to do away with the death penalty. Pohnpei are type of people who are afraid of death if they will hear a prisoner is going to be killed because he or she commits crime. They will surely change because they will be afraid of dying. This will make Pohnpei a very peaceful state. According to Roxanne Rodriquez, author of the book, A Legal Research Guide, stated that these convicted murderers deserve to die (42). The last reason Pohnpei must have death penalty is for the safety for the citizens.
The ones who throw the bible at the penalty forget to read certain portions. “The murderer shall surely be put to death” (Numbers 35:16-18) this bible excerpt counters the argument. Abstracting the death penalty and saying it is wrong for the government to take ones life is the wrong way to approach the system. If each case was reviewed in the sense that the victim was a loved one, giving the criminal free room and board would be a harder choice. A claim that human life’s value is diminished when someone is executed is a bold claim.
After addressing the death penalty from two different perspectives, should it be banded in the United States like other countries or is the death penalty something that society should come to terms with. I argued that while perspective one is strong in that it states those who commit murder need to die, but it fails to fully consider the innocent people that have already died because of law enforcement negligence, perspective two gave a better understanding of all the innocent people who were charged for committing a crime they did not commit. Michael Rea March 22, 2011 Koch vs. Bruck "Is capital punishment an adequate and necessary form of payback for the crime of murder? And will it prevent the occurrence of future murders? These are the vital issues argued by Edward I. Koch in his article, "The Death Penalty is Justice," and David Bruck's "No Death Penalty." In my opinion, Koch is able to ideally show the need for capital punishment, while Bruck is ineffective at justifying his stance that the death penalty is an unsuitable punishment for the crime of murder." In "Death and Justice: How Capital Punishment Affirms Life", readers view the opinions toward the death penalty in today's world.
On the other hand there are people that are for the death penalty. They are for the death penalty because they think that the people that have committed these crimes deserve to feel the horrible pain and fear that their victims felt. Some people believe that both side of the death penalty has valid arguments. It is up to each individual to make the decision as to where they stand. The two individuals that are on opposite sides of the death penalty are Edward Koch and David Bruck.
The following are a few reasons I side for and not against: I believe in recidivism and the fact that unfortunately some citizens have no regard or value for life as they should. After reading his Interview I got to know that he wanted to write the “true account” of a murder case. Truman Capote wanted to show both sides of the murder case. This is also connected to his thesis which is that the capital punishment is unjust. Presented by the unfair trial to be hanged and the actual event of hanging as being cold, distant and heartless.
What is generally meant by the term euthanasia is mercy killing - the deliberate ending of a person's life to reduce their suffering. More commonly used today, however, is the phrase the "right to die." These are noble sounding words that literally mean that someone can request that a doctor kill him. In the terminology battle, the proponents of euthanasia are seeking to redefine what is now known as a form of homicide and call it acceptable medical practice. The debate is very much an ethical one.
I do not believe this to be true, I believe that long-term imprisonment is what criminals are not afraid of. It is said that the death penalty encourages and legitimizes unlawful killing. But let’s think about it “murder, is unlawful and undeserved while the death penalty is lawful and deserved for unlawful act.” Imprisonment will never be a harsh enough punishment because they live off of our taxes, and it is sad to say that we are paying to keep these criminals alive. But most religious people will argue that capital punishment is breaking one of the Ten Commandments but the bible also says that “it is an eye for an eye.” That statement does not mean that when a person does something to you, you do it back but God put rules and people on this earth and gave them choices to make and I feel that if you truly love your brothers and sisters within this world the death sentence is appropriate because your are keeping them from hurting any other people. So many non-supporters of the death penalty say they are against it because of racial discrimination, or how it treats humans as like animal, or that it is cruel and unusual, or that retribution is another word for revenge and therefore they believe that life imprisonment is a just enough punishment.
