As a part of induction to my new work role I have been asked to show to my supervisor that I can describe the duties and responsibilities of my role, identify standards that influence the way my role is carried out and to describe ways to ensure that my personal attitudes or beliefs do not obstruct the quality of my work. 1.1 Duties and responsibilities of my role 1.2 Standards that influence the way my role is carried out My setting hold policies and procedures which influence the way I work. Setting needs to be regulated and have to meet a required standard to ensure the health, safety and well-being of children, staff and parents. Standards that influence my role are: 1.3 Describe ways to ensure that my personal attitudes or beliefs do not obstruct the quality of my work My own attitudes and beliefs come from different sources, including my own life experiences, my childhood and the attitudes of those close to me. Everyone is entitled to have opinion, but at the same time it is important to ensure that my own opinions do not have negative impact on my work. It is always good to listen to others people’s points of view, when I listen my colleagues views it helps me to see things from another angle. Discussions with colleagues give my opportunity to tell them my opinions and listen to theirs. It is also good to be receptive to the way other people do things. Sometimes my colleagues carry out task in a different way, it is best to take step back and let them to do it. Their method is different to mine but outcome is same. It is also important not to be confrontational if we want to work in effective team, challenging other people’s opinions negatively will create discord in the setting, which can have bad consequences for effective team
