Speech of Introduction Have you ever been referred to as a fish? I have, many times actually, and I take it as a compliment. I love to swim and have been a competitive swimmer for over thirteen years now. I started swimming at a very young age where most would still be in swimmies. My older sisters both swam too, which made it a lot more challenging since I am the baby. I also went to state all four years in high school. I started swimming when I was five years old. When I was three my mom would actually take me up to the pool at five in the morning and put my on a chair to sleep while my sisters practiced. I loved it and I always got so excited right before I raced. I remember my dad coming up to me when I was waiting behind the block and he would say "let me give you your shot of speed." So he would take his pen and poke it into the bottom of my foot to make me go faster. He would also do the same thing to my two sisters. Swimming against them always made me want to try harder. I would always try to beat my sisters in races. We were always trying to outdo each other and that is one thing that I could rub in their faces. I never beat either one of them until my freshman year at state. I finally beat Sally. I swam my best time ever. I have not swam that fast since then, even though I have had good competition my other three years at state. I have made an individual state cut all four years of high school. I have also been on at least one relay every year. My senior year I was the only swimmer on our team to make an individual state cut. As you can see, my life revolves around swimming. Sometimes I think about quitting and I just can't imagine what my life would be like without it. I have even decided to swim at Dallas this year. Maybe you all can come to one of our swim
