INTERNSHIPS ARE A WASTE OF TIME Conducting an internship domestically or abroad for a university student is required to fulfill the needs of development both in academic and personal issues of the student. Apart of the academic grading needs, people indeed create two completely different arguments on whether the internships are only a waste of time or it contributes a tremendous positive effect on the students their selves. However, in a big extent, internships are investments and the tools of development. The first reason on why internships are not a waste of time is because they give investments in the students’ career paths and opportunities. Confirmation on what division the students need to decide later as a real employee is a real investment by spending the time to do internships. Students may feel that they are more comfortable working in a division rather than the planned division that they wanted to. For example, a student chose marketing as the first option, but they found his/herself fit in more in Finance division. Furthermore, internships are beneficial because it expands the students’ networks of jobs, people and working environments. The second biggest concern on why students need to conduct their internships is because the need of development focusing on the practical implementations. As a matter of fact, sometimes university only gives approaches to the students through theories as it is not the main goal to the career development in their future. What actually matters is the urgency of practices through the works in the real environment, e.g. on the job training, mentoring, etc. In addition, accumulating new skills could be one of the unexpected main goals of what internships are demanded for. By weighing up the evidences and putting aside the only reason on why internships are bad because of low paid jobs, internships are not a waste of
