The invention of the Internet in the 1960s was the start to a digital generation that replaced many conventional means of accomplishing tasks, including shopping. Time, money, and convenience have since long been plaguing the idea of driving to a store and searching through sections after sections of items. The difficulty in finding a single item in a store may rival that of finding a needle in a haystack. Luckily, online shopping removes these problems and allows for a much friendlier shopping experience. However, it is not without its disadvantages. Internet related credit card thefts and scams are dwindling thanks to improved security, but these hazards are without question still present and dangerous. Since the emergence of global shopping websites such as Amazon, eBay, and Taobao, the average consumer’s access to items and products online has become as convenient as it is plentiful. The major factor behind the immense popularity of online shopping is the large amount of time saved as well as the hassles avoided. A trip to the nearest bookstore may involve driving, parking, and digging through countless shelves of novels. The customer must then wait in line to purchase his book, and only after returning home could he begin reading his Harry Potter book. On the other hand, a simple search on Amazon may land multiple hits with prices and customer ratings side-by-side and ready for comparison. Ordering the item is as easy as clicking on the buy button and entering the shipping information. Online shopping enables consumers to accomplish this without having to take a single step outside the house. Limited in variety and quantity, physical shops and stores are sometimes unable to satisfy customer needs due to the unavailability of certain goods.
