Opening-Concealed carry Gone are the days of the old west gun slinger……We usher in a new era of gun toting (aka concealed carry) laws and regulations that each state hands down to potential carriers so that history doesn’t repeat itself. What is Concealed carry; it refers to the practice of carrying a handgun or other weapon in public in a concealed manner, either on one's person or in proximity. To an everyday person this might sound like a bad idea; I mean who in their right mind should carry a weapon in a public place. Well there are laws that have been set in place since the 1960’s that have stemmed from court rulings so that this new regulatory law can succeed. Body 1-Federal Laws and a brief History Federal laws help protect the rights of individuals of the United States. However there are special laws in place that regulate the purchase of, the use of, and the carrying of firearms. Some laws that stand out would be; Second Amendment of the United States Constitution; the right to bear arms The Gun Control Act of 1968: this law prohibits felons, illegal aliens, and other codified persons to own or carry a firearm. The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act; States that a Qualified Law Enforcement Officer and Retired Law Enforcement Officer to carry in any jurisdiction in the United States. Gun Free School Zones Act of 1995; prohibits a person in possession fo a firearm to be within 1000 feet of the property line of a K-12 school. Federal Property……prohibits possession of a firearm on any federal property National Park Carry Act; Allows a person to possess a concealed firearm within a national parks boundaries, however only 3 national parks disallow this act. And as always the possessor has to be in compliance with local and state law. Body 2-Local Laws and Explanations As with many federal governments, the local bodies brandish their own laws
