INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION IN TURKEY Firstly, before elaboration on the implementation of international education in Turkey we need to define the term international education. When we think about the meaning of international education we can see that it has more than one meaning. The first one is more about the education programs which offer people to exchange students or instructors among different countries and let them have some part of their educations abroad. The one that we are more interested in refers to an education that fosters to educate students to be actively participate in the interconnected and developing world. When it comes to qualifications that distinguish international education from Turkey’s national education, globalization which aims to integrate cultures and societies comes first. Today, the world is getting smaller because of the developing technology and interaction between countries and cultures. In an environment that interactions between cultures are so important and easy, the education cannot be isolated. At that point, a new and more effective education which prepares students to the changing world becomes essential (Altinyelken, 2011). That’s why learning more about other regions, societies, religions, gaining a more peaceful perspective to differences, getting familiar with global issues and being able to communicate in different languages can be considered as the main targets of international education. These qualifications increase international education students’ chances to get a job outside their countries (Cambridge & Thampson, 2011). Also, the students are more likely to have classmates from other counties as teachers have colleagues from different nationalities. These all help people who serve to and benefit from international education have a broader perspective which help them develop the idea of ‘being a world
