Are my arms shaking? Is my face turning red? Can you see my heart beating from the inside of my shirt? I always ask these questions before I present a speech, not to frighten myself rather to inform myself of my past dilemmas I faced. Throughout my life, I've been deathly afraid of two things, spiders and public speaking. You see when I was a kid I always wanted to become a leader of some sort of club or organization and take total control of it, whether it was MUN, Student Council, NHS, the soccer team, theater club, stinger, you name it. But there was one issue with me, and that problem was my lack of public speaking. It all started at the age of thirteen when I was given my first presentation in front of a large audience. I was asked to present my science fair project to Mrs. Norma Hudson which involved the amount of energy a basketball took in while it was dribbling. Belive it or not, that didn't end well. After I heard about the news that my project was the one chosen for display, I was ecstatic. But the second my name was called, I reminisced all the great memories I had with my family, friends, and all my loved ones as if I was going to leave this beautiful, magical planet. You see the idea of public speaking horrifies me to such an extent that if a professor ever gave one of my classes the option of jumping into a pool with venomous water spiders in place of giving a speech, I'd be the first one with my swimming trunks on. But that wasn't the case when I was standing right in front of 500 middle school students with their parents. My project was on stage, I saw 1,000 eyeballs staring at me and I began speaking. My heart dropped, my palms were sweaty, my breathing wasn't functioning properly, and my heartbeat was accelerating.
