Googles’ Strategies Google is a multinational organization built around the company’s widely popular search engine. It was founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Googles roots go back to 1995 when the two Stanford University graduate students met. They collaborated on a research project that eventually became the Google search engine. Google was first called BackRub because of its analysis of back links. This name was not much of a success and eventually the name Google was agreed upon. This came about as a misspelling of the word googol. Googol means a number one followed by one hundred zeros and was chosen to represent the large amounts of data and information the search engine would process. Google’s other enterprises include email, online document creation, software, cloud computing, online advertising technologies, mobile phones, tablets, and computers among others. Since its start, Google has grown to more than 50,000 employees worldwide. Its corporate headquarters, the GooglePlex, is located in Mountain View, California. Googles mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Google is the most widely used search engine in the world. It has become so dominant that the name has become a verb meaning to conduct a Web search. People will most likely say they “Googled” something then to say they have searched for it. The search engine is the most successful one on the internet, handling more than 70 percent of all online search requests. Googles business model is to provide absolutely free services to its Internet users. Google makes its revenues from advertisers who are interested in reaching out to the online users.
