???????? October 19th 2011 Communications Informative Speech A-Every year around this time it’s common that we start to see a steady stream of sniffling, coughing, feverish people. Its obvious that this is a result in the change of weather and the human body trying to adapt. R-Im pretty sure ever one in this class room usually gets sick more often in the winter as appose to the summer. Am I right? R- I myself notice that when winter comes along that I usually get sick at least once or twice before Spring, sometimes more. O- So today I would like to inform you about the three most common winter illnesses W - Specifically influenza, Strep Throat, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection (RSV) A-Influenza S- Symptoms Fever (usually high) Headache Tiredness (can be extreme) Cough Sore throat Runny or stuffy nose Body aches Diarrhea and vomiting (more common among children than adults) S- Treatment Mild Case Stay at home and rest Avoid close contact with people in your house Drink plenty of water and other clear liquids (Prevent Dehydration) Treat fever and cough with over the counter medicines Severe Case see doctor for prescription of antiviral medicine S- Prevention- Transmitted through physical contact, sneezing, and coughing The “Flu shot” Vaccine (contains killed strands of the virus) Given with a needle and is usually injected into the arm. Approved for people 6 months and older healthy or not The “Nasal-spray flu vaccine” A vaccine made with live weak flu viruses (wont cause the flu) Approved for people 2-49 years of age if not pregnant A-Strep Throat S- Symptoms Sneezing Cough Watery eyes Mild headache Mild body aches Runny nose Low-Grade fever (less than 102 F) S-Treatment Mild Case Drink plenty of fluids
