Information Technology is the passing of information by using computing technology to do so. IT uses tools to capture, store, process and exchange such information by using networks, hardware or software and the internet. Information Technology has four major components of its infrastructure. The IT Infrastructure consists of hardware, software, networks, and databases. The IT support organization is comprised of the people side of the IT infrastructure. The manager is normally part of the support organization; their element is the most important component of understanding in the IT infrastructure. The importance of a Managers understanding is to frame business opportunities and the threats to others so that they can lead them in order to understand them. Managers are also responsible for IT policies and business processes that meet their organization’s needs. Your organization could have the latest and greatest technology available. However, if it does not meet you organizational needs then it is worthless to you. Information System is the method by which Information Technology is collected, filtered, processed and distributed. The three main components that make up an information system are functions, networks, and enterprises. A manager’s responsibilities are a bit different in term of Information Systems vs. Information Technology. Managers responsibilities are to take the three main components of Information Systems to determine the most efficient way of incorporating them into ways to increase revenues, improve decision making, enhancing customer relationships, while overall meeting these and other fundamental objectives of their organization.
