For example, the name of the bacteria, virus, or parasite. * How is this infectious agent transmitted through food or water? * What is an example of a real life outbreak of this foodborne illness in the United States? * What are the clinical symptoms, duration of the disease, and treatment if any? * What steps can be taken to prevent further outbreaks? Include individual as well as environmental precautions and methods. The infectious agent (pathogen) that causes the infectious disease Salmonella would be an intracellular parasite. Intracellular parasites use many different ways to get to and invade the cells and pathways so it can gain a place against the defenses of the host. The entry way of more intracellular parasites are gained through host-mediated processes. It is called intracellular because in order for it to make a duplicate of itself it has to enter a cell (intracellular) steal the machinations of the cell after forcing it to stop and then it is able to make a copy of itself. The intracellular causes the disease of Salmonella because it is able to invade, survive and then multiply. They can live a long enough time to where they can pass from one organism to another. Salmonella is transmitted through food and water by eating raw fruit or any type of food that is uncooked or raw. You may even have food that touches the surface of something that has bacteria or was once in contact with raw or uncooked meat. Once you touch that surface with any other types of food it can become harmful and impure with the bacteria.
